No, Mr. Naifeh, YOU are the lowlife

Republican leaders in the Tennessee House are calling for the resignation of Rep. Bob Briley after his DUI arrest this weekend. But he didn’t just drive drunk — he fled the scene and led officers on a 100+ MPH chase before finally stopping. He was arrested at gunpoint after stopping in the middle of the road, and the police report notes that he kicked the window of a patrol car.

So how does House Speaker Jimmy Naifeh respond to the calls for Briley to step down? By calling Republicans lowlifes:

I think that’s pretty lowlife. I have absolutely no use for those people,” said Naifeh.

A KnoxNews.com story gives even more detail:

Naifeh said today that Briley suffers from alcoholism, was in treatment last fall and is preparing to enter treatment again. “I will do everything I possibly can to help Rob Briley down the road to recovery,” he said.

How about helping him down the road to his house, you jerk.

Mr. Naifeh, how DARE you call those who want to protect the public lowlifes? I know that to you, a career politician with higher hopes for himself than the state of Tennessee, it’s hard to imagine but there are actually people out there who value the lives of the people that you have “absolutely no use for”.

I’d much rather call for the resignation of a cocky drunkard than attend another memorial for someone killed by one. Forget trying to protect the 1,000+ people who’ll be killed by a drunk driver in Tennessee this year — Mr. Naifeh’s sole concern here is protecting his seat in the Speaker’s chair.

So how about this — I’m calling for Briley to step down for irresponsible behavior and Naifeh to step down for his reckless and irresponsible comments.

Amen indeed, and just another in a long list of reasons Mr. Naifeh should step down including his rule breaking on the floor of the TN House, his shepherding of an unconstitutional budget process and countless others.

Anyone want the scoop on all the staff members he’s had affairs with for years? I hear it’s pretty common knowledge among many at Legislative Plaza. Any of you hot shot journalists/bloggers care to delve into that one?

He’s currently dating Mary Littleton, lobbyist for the TN Trial Lawyers. Being a trial lawyer himself and being involved with one, he’s held up medical malpractice reform that would help Tennessee consumers and taxpayers while doing everything he can to find more ways for trial lawyers to take advantage of the injured. He’s a creep.

Jim Hackworth thinks Jimmy N. is great. He routinely votes for him to retain the Speaker’s gavel.
What does Hackworth think of the Speaker’s comments about Briley’s alleged crimes?

Good question. I’m going to call and find out…

Another Briley destroying his life over booze and he is the one with the personality. Hopefully he will get help and stay on the wagon and I do feel he should resign but I don’t think he should be attacked. Alcoholism is a disease and if you have never had to deal with it than consider yourself lucky. If you know him support him through his recovery if not than let those that do help him but do not attack. He has made enough mistakes here that he will probably lose his law license and hopefully that will teach him a lesson. He will have to prove himself to get them back. I do not know him but I have loved ones who have battled this disease.

I don’t care about his ability to argue the law. I care about him being a law MAKER. He sits on a panel that creates the DUI laws for the State of Tennessee.

You think him losing his law license is punishment enough? Give me a break! I don’t want the man to lose his ability to make money, I want him to lose the ability to create laws.

I’m tired of all the “alcoholism is a sickness” garbage, too. That’s such a sorry excuse for people who want others to feel sorry for them rather than be responsible for their own choices. And if he’s that sick, why was he serving in the first place?

I expect more out of our elected officials. I’d be just as angry if this was a Republican. I don’t care if you’re GOP, DNC, or the zombie body of Ronald Reagan — if you’re drinking and driving you’re putting lives in danger and that’s UNACCEPTABLE.
